Your privacy and safety are our highest priorities. To protect yourself while using SafeSpace, please follow these essential guidelines:
1.1 Never Share Personally Identifiable Information
Do NOT share:
- Your full real name (use your username only)
- Home or work addresses
- Phone numbers or personal email addresses
- Social security numbers or other government IDs
- Credit card or banking details (our payment system is handled securely by Stripe)
- Social media handles or profiles
- Photos that could identify your location or identity
- Work or school information that could identify you
1.2 Maintain Platform-Only Communication
All communication should remain on the SafeSpace platform. Do not agree to take conversations to other messaging apps, email, or phone calls. Listeners are trained and vetted, but keeping conversations on the platform ensures:
- Your conversations remain secure and encrypted
- We can maintain proper records for safety purposes
- You have access to support if issues arise
- Compliance with our confidentiality standards
1.3 Create a Secure Username
Choose a username that does not reveal:
- Your real name or initials
- Your birth year or age
- Your location
- Contact information

2. During Your Sessions
2.1 Choose a Safe Environment
- Find a private, quiet space where you won't be overheard
- Use headphones for added privacy
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection
- Let someone you trust know you're using a support platform (without sharing details)
2.2 Setting Boundaries
- Share only what you're comfortable sharing
- You can end any session at any time
- You can request a different Listener if you don't feel comfortable
- Report any inappropriate behavior immediately
2.3 Recognizing Red Flags
Report any Listener who:
- Asks for your personal contact information
- Suggests meeting in person
- Requests money or gifts
- Shares inappropriate or sexual content
- Breaches your trust or privacy
- Claims to provide medical or psychiatric treatment
3. Emergency Protocols
3.1 If You're in Crisis
SafeSpace is not equipped for crisis intervention. If you need immediate help:
- Emergency: Call 911
- Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (24/7, confidential)
- Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
- Veterans Crisis Line: Call 988 then press 1
- Disaster Distress Helpline: Call 1-800-985-5990
3.2 If You Feel Unsafe During a Session
- Immediately end the conversation
- Report the Listener using our reporting feature
- Contact support at privacy@my-safespace.org
- Take screenshots if needed (but prioritize your immediate safety)
4. Platform Safety Features
4.1 Reporting and Blocking
You can report or block any Listener who violates our guidelines. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours by our safety team.
4.2 Anonymous Usage
Your Listener only sees your chosen username. Your email and other personal information remain confidential.
4.3 Session Encryption
All conversations are encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). Your messages are secure during transmission.
4.4 Data Deletion
When you deactivate your account, all conversations are permanently deleted within 30 days.
5. Listener Code of Conduct
Our Listeners agree to strict professional standards:
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Never ask for or accept personal contact information
- Never meet users in person
- Stay within their scope of training
- Refer to crisis resources when needed
- Report any safety concerns to SafeSpace administration
6. Protecting Minors
SafeSpace is for users aged 18 and over. If you believe a minor is using the platform, please report it immediately to privacy@my-safespace.org.
7. Technical Safety
- Keep your password secure and unique (don't reuse passwords from other sites)
- Enable two-factor authentication if available
- Log out after each session, especially on shared devices
- Keep your browser and device updated
- Use a secure internet connection (avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive conversations)
