The Dickens Process is a structured exercise designed to help you identify a limiting belief, fully understand its impact across your life, and replace it with a new, empowering belief that aligns with who you want to become.
Follow the steps below as a guided process. Take your time with each section and allow yourself to fully feel and visualize the experience.
Step 1: Identify the Limiting Belief
Begin by choosing an area of your life where you feel stuck or held back.
Ask yourself: What belief might be contributing to this?
It could sound like:
- “I’m not good enough”
- “I don’t deserve success”
- “Change is too hard”
Once you identify the belief, clearly state it. This is the belief you will work through in the process.
Step 2: Explore the Cost of This Belief
You will now examine how this belief has affected your life across three timeframes: past, present, and future.
2.1 The Pain of the Past
Close your eyes and reflect on your past.
Bring awareness to:
- Opportunities you missed
- Relationships that were affected
- Emotional pain you experienced
Ask yourself:
- How has this belief held me back?
- What has it cost me emotionally, mentally, physically, or financially?
Take a moment to feel the weight of this belief and acknowledge its impact.
2.2 The Pain of the Present
Now shift your focus to your current life.
Ask yourself:
- How is this belief affecting me right now?
- How is it impacting my relationships, career, health, or happiness?
- What opportunities am I currently missing because of it?
Allow yourself to fully recognize how this belief is showing up in your present reality.
2.3 The Pain of the Future
Next, project this belief into your future.
Imagine carrying this belief for the next:
- 5 years
- 10 years
- 20 years
Ask yourself:
- What would my life look like if I never let go of this belief?
- What dreams would remain unfulfilled?
- How would this affect my relationships, health, and sense of purpose?
Let yourself feel the long-term cost of holding onto this belief.
Recognize that this is the price of not changing.
Step 3: Create a New Empowering Belief
Now that you have fully experienced the cost of the limiting belief, it’s time to replace it.
Ask yourself:
- What belief would support the life I want to live?
For example:
- Replace “I’m not good enough” with “I am capable and worthy of success”
Choose a belief that feels clear, positive, and aligned with your goals.
3.1 Visualize the Benefits of the New Belief
Close your eyes again and imagine living with this new belief.
See yourself:
- Taking new opportunities
- Improving your relationships
- Growing in your career or personal life
- Feeling more confident and fulfilled
Ask yourself:
- What would my life look like with this belief?
- How would I feel living this way every day?
Allow yourself to experience the emotions connected to this new belief—joy, confidence, freedom.
3.2 Anchor the New Belief
Now, say your new belief out loud.
Repeat it clearly and with conviction:
“I am [insert your empowering belief].”
Repeat it multiple times and allow yourself to feel it as true.
Step 4: Create a Plan for Change
To reinforce your new belief, identify how you will begin living it daily.
Ask yourself:
- What is one action I can take today that reflects this belief?
- How will I remind myself of this belief each day? (e.g., affirmations, journaling, visualization)
Also identify:
- One specific situation where you will consciously practice this belief
- How you will respond differently with this new perspective
Step 5: Reflect and Reinforce
Take a moment to reflect on the process.
Ask yourself:
- What is the biggest insight I gained?
- What is one thing I will do this week to reinforce this new belief?
Remember:
Each time you act from this new belief, you strengthen it.
Transformation happens through repetition and consistent practice.
All the best as you transform your beliefs to work for you and not against you!
